It seems like a hobo threw a cigarette around an Internet2 (no, that’s not a typo) fiber optic line, which burned through it, disabling it for a projected 1-2 days, smart IT got it back up in a short 4 hours. Internet2 was not designed with the reliability the normal net we use is, it was designed with speed in mind. They have reached speeds upwards of 9 Gbps(that’s not a typo either), but that speed comes at a price. The Internet2 doesn’t have redundancy(a backup line so you are never completely disconnected).
Think about XBOX Live at 9 Gbps
After a couple solid hours of testing them, i have drawn a couple of conclusions. It is hard to accurately judge this because no one knows these maps very well. These are posted from worst map(in my opinion) to the best map. The maps are all great, but some are better than others.
Process: I didn’t get to play much of this map today, but it seemed solid. I got into a few good shotgun battles on this map, that where pretty fun.
Subway: This map is fun, but has many of the same textures and 3D models as some of the old maps. such as the cracky walls. It is fun to play on, but it is still not very original(compared to their other maps)
Garden: This map is superb, it brings new textures, models, new variety, innovation, and is just a great map. It is one of the few maps with the Hammer of Dawn on it too. This map is pretty big, and i couldn’t find my way around it without getting confused. Just a side not, I could not get through the pesticide area without dying. It gives you a cool effect when you are about to die though.
Bullet Marsh: This is by far my favorite map, and it is the most original of any of the maps. The lighting really good, and it’s fun to try to fight the Kryll. Also, you are open from almost any side, which brings a new level of challenge to the game, no more waiting for someone right in front of you to get with in shotgun range, you have to move around or you will get sniped. This happened to me many times in the middle bridge.
I got this in the mail yesterday for my Tippmann A-5(I have a flatline barrel, double trigger, SpecOps Offset hopper and Earth Magnet Magnetic trigger mod)
I didn’t have any CO2 to practice with, but it seems to work pretty well. the only thing is the special ops website just said “Double Trigger”, and i didn’t know there where two different double trigger crank models. a few runs with the trusty dremel fixed that. So far i have figured out that it is pretty loud, but it sounds REALLY FRIGGING COOL! I mean REALLY cool.
Now, all i have to get is an Egrip (w/ APE Rampage) and either a Dogleg or SAW stock. I am sort of leaning towards the SAW stock, but im not sure if i will have an unobstructed view down the sights. I also think the SAW stock would look uber1337 with the OpsGear SAW Shroud.
There is a new Gears of War Map pack out tomorrow, Thursday 05/03/07
This map Pack will cost 800 Microsoft Points(US $10) and will be free after September 3.
There will be 4 maps, some of them with ‘Interactive’ elements, such as Bullet Marsh, where you can shoot out the generator that is powering the lights, and have swarms of Kryll attack anyone unfortunate enough to be in the unlit area, or the Garden map, where pesticides are released in the greenhouse, which will kill anyone in there at the given time.
Garden: The garden map will be set in an abandoned conservatory that is filled with plants. There is one twist, however. The greenhouse will have periodic releases of pesticides from the still-working pesticide system.
Bullet Marsh: This map is set in a Kryll infested swamp, with a generator that powers the lights. Players can shoot the generator, turning off the lights leaving anyone that is not in a lit area to fend for themselves against the bloodthirsty Kryll.
Process: This is set in a still active Imulsion processing plant, which will hopefully have some interactive features, for instance being able to run into a turbine and get all chopped up. I’ll be having good dreams tonight.
Subway: Not much is known about this map either, except that it is (obviously) set in a Subway crawling in locust. No news on interactive features on this map either. if there is something, it will probably be similar to the train in that one map.
Tomorrow will be a gruelingly slow and painful day at school, waiting and waiting to go home, only to wait a couple more hours to download the maps off of the painfully slow servers.
Hello World, classic. i will leave you with this.
